Earlier investigations (1-4) showed an immunologic relation between human breast cancer and mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV). The presence of antibodies in sera of patients with breast cancer reacting with antigens in the cytoplasm of mouse mammary tumor cells was shown by various methods including indirect immunofluorescence (5). This reactivity could be abolished by absorption of the sera with MMTV (5, 6) or intracytoplasmic type A particles (7). The specificity of the reactivity of human antibodies with MMTV-associated antigens has been questioned by some investigators (8).
