This third edition of a classic book should be required reading for all physicians who treat diabetic patients. Foot problems are a source of tremendous economic loss in the United States and better understanding of their causes and treatment is needed.
The authors discuss the role of neuropathy in producing an insensitive foot with weakness of the intrinsic foot muscle; the role of vascular disease together with the special characteristics of diabetic macroangiopathy and macroangiopathy; and the role of increased vulnerability to infections. The presentation of the anatomy and mechanics of the foot is extremely pertinent.
