Increasing attention has been devoted to the recognition and treatment of physicians with alcoholism, drug problems and psychiatric disorders. The 14 chapters in this book primarily are by members of the Association for Academic Psychiatry. Individual contributions deal with various aspects of physician impairment, including special clinical problems in treating impaired physicians, organizational models for impaired physician committees, and efforts of selected medical schools at preventive interventions. The special stresses encountered by women in medicine and issues in the treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism are also examined.
