The initial caveat of the author—look at the patient, not his age—is probably the most important of the several messages in this book. The rate of aging is so variable that measuring the expected physiologic and anatomic changes with chronologic age can be, at best, only a gross approximation. The task is compounded by the multiple degenerative and other diseases encountered in the declining years.
Although slanted toward the diagnosis and management of cardiac disease in the elderly patient, this small book covers, in a wide-ranging manner, the more frequent cardiologic problems encountered in almost any adult age group. The
