Thorough discussion of a syndrome more often the subject of complaint among lower-level health-care personnel than among those at higher levels of authority and autonomy: loss of satisfaction in one of the "caring" vocations originally entered with hopes of pleasure in its interpersonal relations. The analysis of the basic cause of "burnout" is superficial, but the suggestions for helping those who suffer from it are well based and likely to help both victims and administrators responsible for vocational contentment of colleagues or subordinates.
