The arts of gross examination and microscopy of urine sediment are discussed along with reagent strip chemistry and special analyses in this compendium written for medical technologists and students. Although the author's thoughts are clearly expressed, she tends to oversimplify or distort concepts in physiology and pathology: For example, nephrosis is described as degeneration of the kidney without inflammation. It would have been better to omit these misleading and unnecessary statements from a handbook and atlas.
