The senior author of this historical book is the pathologist-clinician who first described the syndrome of postpartum necrosis of the pituitary gland. Thus, this disorder is known as Sheehan's syndrome in many English-speaking areas of the world. The book deals with the causes, effects, diagnosis, and treatment of ischemic necrosis of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland after pregnancy and a complicated delivery. Data from postmortem examinations correlated with clinical observations over many decades are used to define the morphological and clinical features of postpartum hypopituitarism, with emphasis on the typical pathologic features.
