There is little published information on the use of fibrinolytic therapy in renal vein thrombosis. Isolated case reports (1, 2) of patients with renal vein thrombosis so treated have been unpromising but fail to constitute an adequate trial of this therapeutic approach. There are, however, several reported cases that show that heparin administered soon after thrombosis of the renal veins may be instrumental in restoring renal function jeopardized by the thrombotic occlusion (3-5).
