Between 1979 and 1981, the Hastings Center commissioned a series of papers on the ethics of health policy. Four objectives were stated: clarifying goals for the health care system; elucidating the relation between personal behavior and health status; ascertaining the roles of experts and the public in health policy; and pressing for justice in the allocation of health care resources. This book is a collection of eight of the commissioned papers.
The stated goal of the book is to fashion an equitable health care system. Throughout, the emphasis is on the political and social implications of equitably providing health care.
