The third edition of this book maintains its position as a required resource for anyone interested in renal disease. Twenty-six of the thirty-one chapters are written by Dr. Heptinstall, and the resulting unity is superb. The illustrations are adequate in number, excellently reproduced, and well chosen to supplement the text. The three-volume format is convenient.
The traditional organization of the book is unchanged, providing encyclopedic discussions of "medical" diseases of the kidney, with careful pathologic descriptions, appropriate clinical correlations, and extensive discussion and deliberation in regard to cause and pathogenesis. Neoplasms of the kidney are not discussed.
