To the editor: In their recent article, Dienstag and associates (1) report a high level of immune response in hospital personnel to hepatitis B vaccine. Only 4.1% of hospital personnel had either a weak or no response, whereas 2.3% had a transient response. These results are in agreement with previous studies (2, 3). Indeed, the Immunization Practices Advisory Committee, Centers for Disease Control, suggests that it is not necessary to test for immunity after immunization except for dialysis patients who have a high vaccine failure rate (4). Our experience has not been as successful.
