The slide program is the latest in an ambitious series produced by the American Gastroenterologic Association for the purpose of teaching gastrointestinal pathophysiology to undergraduate medical students. The goal of the series is to provide as a resource for medical educators a set of slides, supporting text and references illustrating the scientific basis of gastrointestinal medicine. In this regard, this unit succeeds admirably.
The unit emphasizes concepts of intestinal immunophysiology, the nature and interactions of the gut microflora, and the pathophysiology of microbial intestinal pathogens relative to their roles in health and disease. The section on gut immunology is uneven,
