Over the last 2 decades, it has become clear that patients with rheumatic diseases can benefit remarkably from the application of multi-disciplinary skills to their diverse problems. In most large centers, this realization has led to the development of a team composed of rheumatologists, orthopedists, physiatrists, physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and counsellors. Ideally, this team meets regularly to discuss the problems of selected patients. Apart from patient benefit, this interaction provides a valuable continuing educational experience for all team members.
