Coronary heart disease has been so visible in recent years in medical journals, textbooks of medicine, and published symposia that it would seem an exercise in futility to devote another book to it. However, the editors have produced a first-rate, comprehensive book, with 25 chapters covering risk factors, atherosclerotic plaque, angina, aspects of ischemia and infarction, and treatment, ending with cardiac transplantation. The 43 contributors are authoritative and the format is appealing.
There are limitations. Little of the material is new, although it is presented attractively. The references are numerous and well selected, but few are as recent as 1983.
