To the editor: Endogenous digoxin-like immunoreactivity has been found in serum during the third trimester of pregnancy (1) and the neonatal period (2) and in patients with uremia (3) and, most recently, liver disease (4). We now corroborate the presence of this immunoreactivity in cirrhosis, and report its presence in acute viral hepatitis.
Venous blood was obtained from ten patients with acute viral hepatitis and six patients with cirrhosis of the liver.
