This multiauthored book attempts to fill the gaps in information about biochemical mechanisms involved in pathophysiology of disease. Several chapters are excellent, particularly those by the two editors (dealing with diabetes mellitus and liver disease) as well as those covering hormone action, muscle diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, heme synthesis, and hypertension. The text is easy to read and the tables and figures, although rather sparse, are useful for teaching purposes. This fine book has all too few competitors.
