The famous professional football player makes a spectacular catch in the end-zone and his team is victorious. To help celebrate, he puts a "pinch" between gum and lip, declaring in the magazine advertisement that he can enjoy tobacco now without the health risks of cigarette smoking. A new generation of young adults is being exploited by this kind of pernicious message in the print and television media (1). Although in some age groups cigarette smoking has declined, some groups are showing dramatic and alarming increases in their use of smokeless tobacco.
