To the editor: Recently, Ro 15-1788, a GABA-benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, was reported to be effective in the management of adults with chronic liver disease and hepatic encephalopathy (1, 2). To our knowledge, the use of this agent has not been reported in patients with fulminant hepatic failure.
A 30-year-old woman was hospitalized with nausea and abdominal discomfort after an acetaminophen overdose (15 g). Laboratory results included serum bilirubin, 67 μM/L (normal, 3 to 20) and alanine aminotransferase, 2598 U/L (normal, 0 to 36). The prothrombin time was 59.3s (control, 11 to 13).
