Fatal neonatal anuria has been described after administration of the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor Captopril during pregnancy (1, 2). Animal experiments
(3) and observations in patients with renal artery stenosis (4) show the importance of the renin-angiotensin system in regulating glomerular filtration rate when renal perfusion pressure is low. In newborns, arterial pressure is low, and renal autoregulation might be warranted by the highly activated renin-angiotensin system (5). We report a case of reversible acute renal failure in a premature newborn (35 weeks) whose mother had received the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor enalapril, 20 mg/d for 17 days, before delivering
