To the editor: We report one case of herpes zoster and two cases of postherpetic neuralgia successfully treated with recombinant human interferon-gamma.
A 16-year-old girl with Weber-Christian disease had been treated with corticosteroids and cyclosporin A. In March 1987, small, painful vesicles appeared in the right lateral femoral and gluteal regions corresponding to the distribution of the right S-2. Three days later, 2 X 106 units of interferon-gamma was administered subcutaneously into the lesions. Within 3 hours, the pain in the injected area had subsided. However, new vesicles accompanied by pain appeared later, which were subsequently treated with 2 X
