DANIEL L. MCGEHEE, M.D.
To the editor: The position paper (1) on the future internist is interesting, especially to one who is boarded in the speciality of family medicine. Reading the proposed guidelines was a rereading of the active principles on which family medicine thrives.
With the composite efforts of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians in developing the subspecialty of geriatrics, the proposal as stated would imply an approachment of the two specialties with regard to the total practice of medicine. This is a noteworthy and praiseworthy effort.
