The sense of urgency that most clinicians feel when asked to interpret the electrocardiogram of a critically ill patient is nicely conveyed in the title of this text. However, rather than presenting a diagnostic algorithm or a problem-oriented approach that would help in the rapid assessment of such tracings, this book takes us on a thoughtful and reasonably complete journey through the myriad of rhythm abnormalities and conduction disturbances that can (and do) appear in hospitalized patients.
