To the editor: The position paper by the American College of Physicians on home health care (1) is timely and very informative, and it offers a firm base for the development of a home health service. We would like to add some suggestions, based on our experience with the Home Medical Service of Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. This service was born of the observation that some chronically ill patients arrived at the clinic for scheduled visits in such poor condition that they had to be rehospitalized immediately.
