To the editor: The example of literature searching used in the context of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) by Dr. Haynes and colleagues (1) correctly exemplifies the dual powers of electronic retrieval, retrospective searching, and current awareness. The article itself illustrates the problem of currency of information in that it makes no reference to the growing number of information resources available in print and electronic form that deal specifically with AIDS.
