To the editor: The data from Schneider and associates' (1) long experience with radiation-induced thyroid carcinoma validate the theoretical results we obtained using decision analysis (2), as well as the views of other authors. Schneider and associates concede that "translating these findings into unequivocal guidelines for the management of patients with a history of exposure to radiation is difficult." They conclude, nonetheless, that "the data support conservative management of small nodules that are either barely palpable or not palpable, but detected by scintigraphy or ultrasonography."
