To the editor: Miller and colleagues (1) recently reviewed studies that have reported Corynebacterium hemolyticum to be a cause of pharyngitis and rash in young adults. We believe that the studies conducted to date, including those reviewed by Miller and colleagues (1), have not shown conclusively that C. hemolyticum can cause this disease. No studies investigating the pathogenic role of C. hemolyticum have also investigated the role of viruses or mycoplasma in pharyngitis. In addition, if,as stated by Miller and colleagues (1), "the disease that most closely resembles C. hemolyticum pharyngitis is streptococcal pharyngitis," then should not criteria for true
