To develop a working knowledge of the diagnostic options in cardiovascular medicine one must have an understanding of the different methods involved in each test to judge its weaknesses and strengths; know its sensitivity and specificity for detection of various disorders; and consider its relative diagnostic accuracy for a given disorder and its relative cost-effectiveness.
