To the editor: Recently, we had the opportunity to diagnose collagenous colitis (1, 2) and discover the utility of a therapeutic regimen different from those reported in the literature. This potential alternative treatment is bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto Bismol; Procter and Gamble, Cincinnati, Ohio).
A 38-year-old previously healthy man was evaluated for watery diarrhea of 6-months' duration. He had had a 4-month course of watery diarrhea similar to the current episode 10 years previously.
