To the editor: The editorial by Benson and Hudson (2) on certification in critical care offered several statements that provoke comment. First, where are the data that support the concept of "improving the quality" of critical care as currently practiced by graduates of subspecialty training programs? Has this examination been based on adequate study, or is it a reaction to an imagined need?
