To the editor: The letter of Drs. Elias and Iacopino (1) in response to the article by Drs. Soffer and Wilde (2) raises a key issue in medical education and service: is it possible to integrate short-term, informed, delivery of medical care, with long-term, service-oriented, professional, health care? This question is not unique to medical care of refugees. It has been the basis of the transfer of medical knowledge from generation to generation of physicians.
