To the editor: I read with interest the report of Cebul and Beck (1) on the applications of serum biochemical profiles in the screening of adults. The use of such profiles is an area in which "low technology" contributes greatly to expenditure of money for health care. Although I believe the authors have oversimplified the situation and unduly derogate the utility of these tests in some settings, I wish to deal with their interpretation of some of our published data.
