The Annals of Internal Medicine has made remarkable progress in its 68-year existence. As judged by such standards as circulation, advertising revenues, and especially the SCI Journal Citation Reports "Impact Factor," it is now the leading specialty medical journal in the English-speaking world. Its leading sister journals—one might say leading competitors in the sense that they do compete for the best internal medicine papers and for advertising—are all general medical journals that are published weekly.
