Polymyositis and dermatomyositis have recently received attention in two short books. Both are multi-authored, well illustrated, and compactly presented by experts.
Dr. Mastaglia's book contains 10 essays by 13 authors dealing with various aspects of inflammatory muscle disease. There is some overlap among the contributors, with the same topic reviewed in more than one place, and more than one point of view presented. Although at times this overlap may confuse the reader, it demonstrates our need for more knowledge and more definitive information in this "border area," visited clinically by rheumatologists, neurologists, and internists.
Unfortunately, the prime questions remain unanswered.
