To the Editor: The International Working Group on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (1) recently presented its recommendations for the design of clinical trials. There has clearly been a need for standardized criteria for eligibility, response, and toxicity to make published data more interpretable, to allow for the accurate identification of pilot regimens of sufficient interest for testing in large-scale comparative trials, and to minimize the arbitrary nature of dose modifications.
