The eminent naturalist, Aldo Leopold, has written, "Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets, but humbler folk may circumvent this restriction if they know how. To plant a pine, for example, one need be neither God nor poet; one need only own a shovel." The authors of this book exhibit neither divine nor poetical inspiration, but with a metaphorical shovel they have produced a sturdy, serviceable product that should be highly useful to internists and other primary care physicians.
