Kaposi sarcoma, the major cutaneous manifestation of AIDS, heralded the onset of the epidemic. Over time a large array of other cutaneous manifestations of HIV infection have become apparent to clinicians. Characteristic skin lesions are often the first sign of HIV infection. The publication of two volumes addressing the cutaneous manifestations of HIV infection is, therefore, welcome. They represent useful guides for clinicians who are beginning to see patients with this infection and a reference source for those who are more experienced. The two books are substantially different.
