Bedside procedures have traditionally been taught by demonstration and explanation in the clinical setting. Medical students and residents learned by observing, listening, and doing. The need for an illustrated text to amplify the clinical experience is obvious. Unfortunately, practical descriptions of bedside procedures have been scattered throughout the literature, and are seldom available at the bedside. Dr. VanderSalm's atlas fills a real need by presenting a succinct text in outline form, accompanied by simple line drawings.
