Appreciation of the nuances of bone marrow morphology is central to clinical hematology, and there are many guide-books and atlases to assist both the specialist and generalist. The title of Horst Brücher's standard-sized book correctly represents this contribution as more than just an atlas. Clinical case histories, tables of differential diagnosis, and discussion of pathogenesis are integrated with the illustrations of bone marrow aspirates. This moves the morphology out of a purely descriptive arena. The text is good in detail, indicating the author's considerable experience.
