Bergey's Manual is the standard reference work for bacteriologic nomenclature and detailed species description, with emphasis on characteristics relevant to determinative bacteriology. Very few of the species covered in this volume have any importance in medicine, but this work as a whole should be in all medical libraries with responsibilities for coverage of microbiology and infectious-disease medicine.
