The title is misleading; this book is not confined to the diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia. Rather, it tries to cover all aspects of the diagnostic methods and specific disorders discussed. The first section deals with general issues; the second, diagnostic methods; the third, specific diseases in which dysphagia may occur, with a separate chapter on surgical therapy; and the fourth, a single chapter, discusses the multidisciplinary approach.
The authors, half of whom are from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, are knowledgeable in the areas they address. Hence, most individual chapters, viewed in isolation, are good. Controversies are acknowledged
