The advent of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and advances in percutaneous procedures provide markedly improved means for removing urinary tract calculi. This comprehensive monograph presents the current practices at two well-known medical centers for managing patients with urinary tract calculi with respect to both their medical evaluation and therapy and the currently available surgical technics with an emphasis on shock wave lithotripsy. This monograph appropriately begins with brief historical reviews of the early knowledge of urinary tract calculi and evolution of the various instruments and procedures leading to current practices.
