Medical subspecialty textbooks contain more than 2000 pages and cost more than $200. Publishers have exploited the fact that many medical school faculties generate a mimeographed text to introduce second-year medical students to the various subspecialties. These syllabi are "beefed up" and advertised as moderate-sized texts for general internists, family physicians, residents, and medical students. This book is one of these moderate-sized textbooks of pulmonary medicine written by the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.
All generalists are acquainted with the several excellent large textbooks of internal medicine that are updated regularly by a panel of experts
