To the Editor: Since my initial report on the use of topical clonidine to treat diabetic diarrhea (1) (based on experimental work by Chang and associates  and a clinical report of their use of oral clonidine for this disorder ), I have successfully treated an additional five patients for diabetic diarrhea with topical clonidine. After initial control of diarrhea, two treatment failures resulted, from an allergic reaction to the adhesive of the topical clonidine in one case and from inability to retain the patch on the skin due to excessive perspiration in the other case.
