The proceedings of a meeting held in Oxford in April 1989 with cosponsorship by the journal Vaccine and the World Health Organization. The 46 papers are concerned mainly with relevant epidemiology, biologic factors to be considered in the possibilities for vaccine development, technical problems, and assessments of immunogenicity. The diseases considered are gonorrhea, candidiasis, chlamydial infection, syphilis, hepatitis B, papillomavirus infection, herpes simplex infection, human immunodeficiency virus infection.
