Cutaneous tumors are among the most common human neoplasms. The ever increasing incidence of skin malignancies of keratinocyte origin, as well as malignant melanoma, is attributed in part to environmental factors, especially exposure to actinic radiation. There has been a markedly increased (although still insufficient) awareness of skin cancer by the public in general and physicians in particular. The increased number of consultations regarding skin tumors makes it important to become more familiar with various clinical and pathologic aspects of cutaneous neoplasia.
