The "case method approach" in the title may mislead clinicians into thinking that this text is organized to analyze clinical manifestations of pigmented lesions of uncertain diagnostic and therapeutic import. In fact, this is essentially a textbook of dermal pathology; the case descriptions proper are cursory outlines of the cases from which the specimens came, and the "diagnostic criteria" are only dermatopathologic criteria. Color figures of histologic sections are grouped in an appendix. Only for the attention of pathologists whose work includes consultation with dermatologic services and of dermatopathologists.
