In the past decade, several texts on cardiovascular pharmacology have been published. This text's strength is in its extensive discussion of the mechanisms of drug interaction with cardiovascular pathophysiology. Chapters on the control and modulation of the sympathetic nervous system, neuro-effector mechanisms, and vascular smooth muscle cover established concepts and mechanisms under investigation. Graduate students and young investigators will welcome the synthesis. Its inclusion of the first chapter on circulatory regulation from previous editions is also useful; this chapter, although 10 years old, remains an excellent source of ideas and references.
