The International Classification of Sleep Disorders names more than 80 major sleep disorders. A handful of textbooks describe these disorders and their treatments, of which the most widely acclaimed is the Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine (Kryger MH, Roth T, and Dement WC; eds. Philadelphia: W. B. Saunders; 1989). The Handbook, however, is unique in its focus on the neurologic perspective.
