An authoritative, detailed survey of gross and microscopic pathology in the gut from the esophagus to the anus, including the peritoneum but not including gut derivatives (liver, the biliary tract, the pancreas). Normal histologic structure is reviewed at the beginning of each section on the discrete gut divisions. The text focuses mainly on etiologic factors and pathologic characteristics, with only passing attention given to clinical manifestations. This is mainly a reference work for pathologists; it would be suitable for gastroenterologists as a text supplementing their main clinical textbooks.
