Papers and discussions from the proceedings of a symposium held in Cambridge. The four main papers consider the process of quitting smoking, its psychology, the marketing of cessation, and financing cessation services. Each paper is followed by a discussion and a short reference list. The panels considered these central issues at length. The participants were drawn from the academic fields of medicine, sociology, and psychology; from insurers; from pharmaceutical firms; and from public health agencies.
